WONDERLOST - Contemporary Dance

"The concept of this piece is about somebody who starts off with a sense of joy and wonder. Then, something happens in life. She attempts to reach out for help, but is met with indifference. In response, she discards her wonder, concluding it as a naïve way of viewing the world, and instead adopts a “fighter” attitude. The problem is this way of being wears her down and also leaves her stuck, creating this sense of a broken record, repeating the same motions but not getting anywhere. Eventually, she’s exhausted and defeated from fighting. She remembers the “wonder” she discarded, and with new experiences and a new perspective, she reexamines whether she could readopt a sense of wonder. The piece was inspired by the people, students, friends, or family members who had big visions for themselves in the world, but experienced indifference, defeat, and subsequent struggle. In this piece, the character has not reclaimed her wonder, but is confronted by its possibility in her final reflection. In reality, she is empty handed. The idea is that, if she were to reclaim that sense of wonder, she might also be able to offer it to others, and ultimately, the world." — Sorscha Jarman Music: Twice preformed by Little Dragon Courtesy of Peacefrog Records
